Pixar proves that they are not just a great animation studio, but also a bunch of great people.
They recently flew an employee to Huntington Beach California to grant a girl’s dying wish to be able to see ‘Up‘, their most recent movie. Colby Curtin, 10 years old, was suffering from a rare kind of cancer and could not watch the movie in theaters with her parents.
A concerned family friend made a cold-call at the Pixar studios, hoping to reach anyone who could help grant Colby’s wish. And grant it they did. They sent an employee with the movie in a DVD and gave the girl and her parents a private home viewing. The employee also gave her a few movie memorabilia and an adventure book.
Colby died, seven hours later. But it wasn’t in vain— she enjoyed her anticipated movie with her parents during her last few moments.
The first Iron Man movie takes my top spot as the best superhero movie so far (The Dark Knight’s a crime drama in my book) and with Jon Favreau helming the sequel, I can only expect that it will be a blast like the first one.
Robert Downey Jr. will be reprising his role as Tony Stark – probably the best portrayal of a comic book character ever – but he will be joined by a more stellar cast this time around that one can only hope that no one tries to one-up the others.
Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke are cast as villains (no details on exactly who yet) and foxy (skanky?) Scarlett Johansson will be squeezed into some tight leather as Black Widow (I always wanted a brunette for this role though). Bad mo-fo Samuel L. Jackson will appear again as Nick Fury.
Perhaps one of the biggest geek-service additions to the cast will be none other than current Playboy cover model (in which she doesn’t appear nude) – Olivia Munn. It’s not revealed yet on her role but we can only hope that the role requires skin-tight costumes or even minimal coverage. ‘Cause she’s got one of the best bikini bodies out there. Proof? Check out the video below. Hehe…
I have to give it to Guy Ritchie. His envisioning of Victorian England is just wicked. I think that if these posters are any hint of how visually impressive the film is, then I’m sure the Sherlock Holmes movie will be a treat.
I do like the cast as well with Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes. It’d be interesting to see how he creates his own characterization of the super sleuth. Jude Law as Watson somehow violates my image of Watson as a stocky fellow reading the abridged classics as a kid. I really don’t like Jude Law as an actor but we’ll see how he did with Guy Ritchie at the helm. Mark Strong (who I’m familiar with as Archy in Ritchie’s RocknRolla) is Holmes’ nemesis Lord Blackwood. Rachel McAdams also appears as Irene Adler.
The drumbanging has started even during filming but the film’s set for a December release. Can’t wait?
The Nintendo Wii revolutionized the gaming world because of the new level of interactivity it brought through its motion controlled interactivity. With that, the Wii took Nintendo back into the gaming ball game after disappearing post-GameCube.
Microsoft and Sony wouldn’t have none of that though, as they plan to take away Nintendo’s competitive advantage by introducing their own motion controllers for the Xbox and the Playstation in the recent E3 event.
Microsoft call theirs “Project Natal” and Sony dubbed theirs the “Eye.” Quite interesting but they wouldn’t change the fact that Nintendo beat them to the game. These additions of motion controllers now challenges Nintendo’s technologies. The combination of motion control with the Xbox and PS’s advanced graphics is quite potent.
Competition’s always good though since it would push the boundaries of interactive gaming to the next level.
During E3 2009, Bioware and Lucas Arts released the trailer for their highly anticipated MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Playing the original Knights of the Old Republic game, I became a fan. And actually can’t wait for this. It will feature a lot of character classes and of course, worlds.
Here’s the trailer:
