Other Sugoi staff members might not share my sentiments regarding G.I. The Rise of Cobra but it was awful. Sure it had a lot of explosions and some good action but a sketchy storyline and unestablished and undeveloped characterizations blew it for me. What a way to disappoint a guy who grew up loving G.I. Joe as a kid.
Channing Tatum as Duke was basically a robot. Marlon Wayans as Ripcord came off as a teen movie token black guy character. Heck, even Joseph Gordon-Levitt supposedly okay take on Cobra Commander was ruined by the lack of establishment and Darth Vader twist at the end.
I’d have to say that Sienna Miller as The Baroness was the only thing worth watching for the most part of the movie and they even blew that in the twist late in the movie. I prefer my sexy black-haired leather-clad villainesses wicked through and through, thank you very much. Wapish!
It’s just one of those revival of the 80s centered on making Hasbro some big bucks from the geeks of the new generation. And rake in big bucks it did. It made $56 million in the opening but experts worry about it breaking even especially with the reported $175 million price tag on making it.
G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra is just around the corner and Paramount Pictures is maximizing its publicity run before the film hits theaters. They’ve just released a press kit which includes some hi-res photos of selected scenes from the film (Sorry, we’ve resized them due to our meager bandwidth resources.)
The movie is directed by Stephen Sommers and packs an almost all-star cast with Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Byung Hun Lee, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Saïd Taghmaoui, Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans and Dennis Quaid.
Let’s start things of with the uber shmexy pictures of Sienna Miller as The Baroness.
And how about some Rachel Nichols as Scarlett O’Hara.
And the rest of the photos featuring muscle-bound men.
Oh well. Foolish us for not getting to update this site that often. That last bit about Sienna Miller playing The Baroness (as she appeared on Top Gear) is a bit moot since we haven’t really wrote anything about the G.I. Joe movie. So here’s that token bit, together with the trailer.
The cast looks promising though with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander, Sienna Miller as The Baroness, Rachel Nichols as Shana ‘Scarlett’ O’Hara, Channing Tatum as Duke, Marlon Wayans as Ripcord and Dennis Quaid as General Hawk.
G.I. Joe is part of every child from the 80s. Remember when Duke got seriously injured by a snake? That might not have been as emotionally and culturally significant as Optimus Prime’s death but I remember that part vividly. Now, just like the Transformers, the Joes are back to influence the kids of the new millennium. However, I think that this movie will have the same impact as the Transformers. Lots of intense action sequences and explosions. Whether the script would have any depth or not, we might just have to wait for the movie.
Many people might not like Sienna Miller for being an alleged homewrecker after hooking up with Balthazar Getty. But hey, she’ll be flooding our geek consciousness as she appears as The Baroness in the G.I. Joe movie.
Just take a look at the picture above and I bet you wouldn’t care about her personal business as long as she provides the much needed man-eye candy for a movie filled with muscled men. Don’t tell me you didn’t welcome the sight of Lena Heady in 300.
As part of her publicity work for the film, she appeared on the popular TV motoring show, Top Gear, as the episode’s Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car. Stars do a timed lap around the Top Gear test track. Despite only having a British license for a week, she was able to clock a reasonably good time based on the show’s standards. Plus, she looks cute looking so worried driving the car. Compared to that fierce look she has as The Baroness.
There are quite a handful of babes in skin-tight superhero garments in the news today. Quite honestly, I think I like Sienna’s The Baroness over ScarJo’s Black Widow.
We've done some house cleaning and unfortunately, we broke some links to out Photobucket-hosted images. (FAIL!) We're sorry for that so just check our Photobucket album for those missing images.
