Talk about the many ways to charge your iPod. Forget wall outlets, you computer, or car chargers. Go back to the Industrial Age with some good old steam power. Yup, that’s a chock-full of James Watt goodness in this nifty contraption. And look, it has a Lego dude posing on the rig! Lego dude kinda looks like The Stig too. (Sorry, Top Gear reference.)
Inventor Thomas, shares:
Hi, thought you might get a kick out of my latest project. I coupled a Lego Technic Motor to a Jensen #75 steam engine to make a crude generator. From there I built a 5V regulator circuit and soldered in a female USB connection to power any USB device. Since I wanted to use it to charge my iPod, I put in a diode and a .5 amp fuse to provide some circuit protection. Attached are some pictures of it and here are some links to videos of it in action. Unfortunately you can’t see the charge light on the ipod, But as you can hear, the iPod really loads the engine. I was somewhat surprise it could hack it.

I remember the time in high school when calculators only functioned as those dumb 12-digit arithmetic machines good for typing S8008 then flipping the thing over. Well, that was until we got hold of graphing calculators which we hacked and programmed to be our ultimate geektool. Yup, we even used it for our Christian morality classes. Hehehe.
Anyway, now I just wish we had this baby back then – the Calculator Video Camera. It is a fully functional calculator with a large-ish display making it perfect for those wee moments of number crunching but the real appeal is the camera built in to this thing that transmits audio and video feed to a receiver that displays (and records) the feed. This surely would have trumped hand signals and ballpen-tap Morse code for casually observing what your seatmate is doing.
Well, this shouldn’t stop you for getting one for office work. Whether it would be to catch that bastard who steals your pen or to do some other “inspection” work. Catch your boss picking his nose or scratching his butt. Oh, and office scandals, anyone?
This would be one of the ultimate office spy tools that you can get your hands on. That is if you have $193.75 to spare. You can get them online here.

Now if you happen to have $395 lying around (and a few more for shipping…) and have fantasized about Batman coming to your rescue, then this item might be a must have for you. You might not live in Gotham City but you can always light up the sky with your very own Bat Signal.
Don’t be fooled by the relatively small dimensions on this thing (12? x 2.25? x 9?) but this gizmo can project Batman’s insignia up to 16 feet away. Hey, it’s a great way to say that “Batman’s on my side so bugger off” or “Hey, I’m a forty-year old weaboo who trips balls for Batman.” View the bigger picture after the cut.

Oh man, with summer fast approaching, I can just think of cheap ways to get myself cool. Air-conditioning’s out of the question with the rising cost of electricity and a shower every hours just isn’t practical. Electric fans don’t quite cut it. Now how about a cute techie solution.
Take this smart Ice Cube Maker Machine, for example. Well, just guess what it does. It’s powered by a highly-efficient compressort with that can produce 18 to 18 kilograms of ice cubes in a 24-hour span. It’s got a microprocessor to control the darned thing. It can accommodate 2.3L of water at a time with options to make small, medium, large and extra large ice cubes.
But come on? £139.95 (Php 11 654.47) for this one? I want but air-conditioning seems a cheaper alternative.

I rarely see otakus and geeks who smoke but if it’s all for looking geeky and smokin’ at the same time, then these Transformer Zippo lighters are surely worth the take. Probably would appeal to both Transformer fans, Zippo fans, and those looking for the next flashy thing to striking matches on your boot.
These Transformer Zippos come in either black and shiny metal and only 300 units will be sold for each color. Talk about a limited run. Too bad these are only sold pnly in Japan and costs a whopping 12,000 Yen. That’s about Php 4,955 or $120 US.
Hmm… Still not so sure about the nicotine part but I do know a lot of geeks with pyromaniac tendencies. Beware, Optimus will set you on fire!

A few years ago, I always dreamed of having a pen tablet. Working in my former office, I had the chance to use those then-swanky Wacom Intuos2 6×8 pen tablets. But since I’m not an artist, I eventually just reverted back to mousing. That was until that craze over stylus-driven gadgets emerged.
If you’re looking into getting a pen tablet that goes well with your mobile computing needs, Genius just released this G-Pen F350 ULTRA SLIM. It’s a 3×5 tablet complete with a stylus. But don’t let the size deceive you. This thing allows you to sketch, draw, sign, scribble, slice, dice and make fluffy pancakes. Okay, so the last three, only a rabid person will do to this thing but I has a few more features.

I used to find people who attach other input devices to their laptops weird especially if there are already a touch pad and a track button built in to the laptop. Well, since technology has beefed up and laptops can be as powerful than desktops allowing a lot of other functions. So it’s not that awkward anymore to see people lug around portable mice for use in a whole bunch of functions that the touch pad just won’t be able to handle. (Ever tried using Photoshop with a touch pad?)
Portable mice, I’ve seen a lot but I haven’t seen a lot of people lugging around portable trackballs for mobile computing. I haven’t really considered using one but I guess i should start considering it especially since trackballs are said to lessen the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome that is quite common with mice. Here’s one that caught my eye – the Genius Traveler 350.
Genius releases the Traveler 350, a portable mini trackball for notebooks. One of the latest innovations from Genius, this optical mini trackball offers smooth cursor movement and great performance.
