and from our corner…

By Flori on October 11, 2007

Okay, I concede. I don’t wanna be accused as being too Japanese.

We Pinoys are naturally a funny lot so it is also not surprising to find some really cool commercials airing on our sets as well.

Here’s one that screams yaoi:

Hare Hare Yukai

By Kyameel on August 24, 2007

You got that right, another version of the infamous Haruhi dance, from the anime Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. Only this time performed by our all-time favorite Cebu Prison inmates.

It’s a bit on the dark side as it is a night time performance (practice?) but you can still see the star formation and the moves of the inmates moving to the beat of the music. I seriously think that their choreographer is an otaku.

Link discovery thanks to Ain.

While we probably have the most “interesting” legal system in the world, we still get to find ways on how to make corrections a pretty darned funny thing. Just take a look at how the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Cebu make prison feel like Broadway.

That’s around 1,500 of Cebu’s “finest” going Jacko for you. Now maybe this would give Michael Jackson reason to finally own up to those child molestation cases so he can request to serve his sentence in Cebu and choreograph Billie Jean with these inmates.

Take a look at their renditions of Sister Act, Dayang Dayang, Jumbo Hotdog, and Bebot.

Based on the YouTube timestamps, these guys have been doing it for the past year. If this was ever featured in mainstream news, I’d have to apologize as I don’t find any reason (or time) to watch television.

Hey, why don’t we have this in Manila? And how about an all-star showdown. Feature Erap as Liberace!

Can’t beat this. Can’t touch this. (Oh yeah, MC Hammer should be next!) Only in the Philippines.

It’s Transformers time!

In time for the opening of the movie Transformers tomorrow, I am linking to eva_guy01’s account of his escapades as a Decepticon.

HYD on GMA

By Flori on April 23, 2007

Today was the official first day airing of Hana Yori Dango on GMA 7. It replaced Gokusen 2’s time slot, which is right before 24 Oras.

Should have known about this. Should have posted about this. But you know what? I hardly watch TV, and not because I don’t want to. I just don’t have the time! And I can say this on behalf of the rest of Team Sugoi.

Anyway, Hana Yori Dango or HYD ( personally, I call it HanaDan) is a popular girls’ comics (by Kamio Yoko) and anime in Japan which became a popular Chinovela (oh yeah, we all know Meteor Garden). The Japanese probably envied the F4 craze and decided to make a drama of their own. After all, HanaDan was originally theirs! The first season was featured as a Fall Drama in 2003 and the second season was aired as a Winter drama. It just ended March of this year.

Things to expect as I say them:

Taiwanese F4 are much better looking but what the Japanese F4 lacked in looks, they made up for in talent. MatsuJun IS Doumyouji personified.

Inoue Mao is waaaay cuter and a more convincing Makino Tsukushi than Barbie Xu can ever be.

The script, direction and production of HanaDan are superb!

I have been a big fan of HanaDan for 7 years. So when I say I like this drama, it means that I really do.

And the sign says…

By Flori on April 10, 2007

In the tradition of my previous post Bawal Ano?, I am bringing you some of the funniest photos of real signs from all over the Metro and beyond (yep one is not from good old Pinas I think). These stuff are taken by various Pinoy photographers, (Thanks, guys!).

But before you read further, have to rate this post for adult humor:

So if you’re ready, hold your stitches. This is gonna be a pretty painful experience.

My fellow org alumnus (of course I’m an alumna. English is a very difficult langauge, I tell you!) has decided to share his collection of Pinoy green jokes to the public. Will he be the next Gary Lising? We’ll see.

By the way, I’m seeing a “trend” here in Sugoistuff. I hope the “trend” wanes after the members of Team Sugoi gets their well-deserved break this weekend.

And though we do appreciate the Maria Ozawa posts, we’d rather not see Sugoistuff in the “banned sites” list either, do we?
