British gymnast is new Lara Croft

Okay, this newsbit is more than half a month old but since I’m a fan of the Tomb Raider franchise, I’m giving it a take. I just hate it when some of these newsbits get past me. Tomb Raider is a twelve year-old franchise and Lara Croft has undergone makeovers complete with fluctuating breast sizes. Many a reason for hot-blooded gaming geeks to rave about the game. As far as real-life people portraying Lara Croft go, it has...

Unsugoi: Dragonball’s flesh-colored Piccolo

This officially makes it the next step towards Apocalypse. Dragonball has just release screenie teasers of how Lord Piccolo would look in the live-action Dragonball movie and, by gawd, it looks awful. Horrible. Appalling. I don’t know if this screenie’s just bad or the lighting’s off, a flesh-colored Piccolo just plain sucks. And what’s up with that costume. He looks like he’s going to a gala or...

Midway releases new Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe screenshot and trailer

In my opinion, fighting game cross-overs are so Capcom. I liked them while they lasted. Street Fighter IV is probably the next big fighting game and this latest cross-over by Midway doesn’t seem to appeal to any more than your daily celebrity bikini photo post. To answer Ace’s question as to whether this MK vs DCU game is a good idea or not, I say, it’s a hell of a bad idea. For one, the franchise just bastardizes...

RIP Don LaFontaine: The Movie Trailer Voice-over Guy

Oh what a way to start my Sugoi Stuff posting routine. Sad, sad, and un-sugoi news indeed. Being movie (and trailer) fans, we’d like to say farewell to a man who has undoubtedly affected our lives on way or another – Don LaFontaine. For those unfamiliar with the name, he’s the man behind the voice of many of the movie trailers and commercials we’ve seen in our time. Irony of all ironies, the guy died from...

Initial D Extra Stage 2 coming on pay-per-view, DVD

I have to admit that I was (am?) an Initial D nut. It wasn’t my first exposure to drifting and cars but it sure pushed me to be a car and driving nut. While I haven’t gotten as far as getting myself my own black-and-white Corolla GTS/Trueno Sprinter/Corolla Levin AE86 and slap on a Fujiwara tofu-ten sticker on the side and drive around like I was a drifting master, I pushed me to do my fair share of rubber burning. It has...

Queer Eye director to helm Voltron live-action movie

The weekend hasn’t been sugoi at all with all of this news bits plaguing my feed reader. First, it was that Dragonball movie update. Now, this one on the upcoming live-action Voltron movie. Max Makowski, producer, writer and director, will be directing the big-screen Voltron adaptation. Well, perusing Makowski’s resume, he’s responsible for bringing the Today Show in Asia and worked as director for some episodes of...
