Filipino cosplayers sure have gone a long way from the, “Uy, may trench coat Tatay ko. Hiramin mo para mag-Aoshi ka,” days. Proof of which is the fact that Pinoys who are into cosplaying, may it be sewing, wearing, or oggling, now have their own not-so-little-anymore nook in the world wide web – Cosplay.ph!
Don’t forget to visit this wonderful site, and you’ll be amazed at the creativity and ingenuity of these cosplayers’ costumes.
Shout outs to our friends Robert and Jewel, Paul and Sheila, Poli-senpai and the rest of the Cosplay.ph Team!

I can’t believe I’m the one making this post as it belies my otaku-hatin’ nature. Hahaha. But yesterday’s Dragon Ball’s 21st anniversary and I forgot to post this bit. In 1986, Akira Toriyama’s creation aired on Japanese Nihon TV.
Oh well, I knew RPN made strides when I first heard Son Gokou speak Tagalog all of a sudden. Sure was a Sunday afternoon shocker.

Speaking of cosplay, apparently, not everyone in international anime/cosplay communities are fond of otakus. I came across this site, F*ckin’ Otaku which, according to the F*ckin Otaku team itself, aims to:
… (as necessary) define, address, attack, and caution against the dangers of the world of fandom. After all, it’s easy enough to make fun of the obvious social deficiencies in otaku (and we do!) but if we can do something that will, perhaps, lessen the overwhelming stench of a con viewing room, then we will have made an invaulable contribution to society.
Our goal is a multi-pronged assault on the scourge of otaku: public humiliation and derision of otaku, the shattering of fanboy illusions through crossdressing as their favorite characters, and, most importantly, forming a support group and outlet of rage at the most obnoxious and horrifying fans within the anime community.
I guess you’ll just have to be a little open-minded if you are a self-proclaimed otaku and you wish to read the articles or browse through the cosplay pictures on this site. Personally, as a reformed otaku myself, I found the bits and pieces here quite harmless and entertaining.
Unfortunately, F*uckin’ Otaku has not been updated for more than a year. And though it hasn’t convinced me to say a complete “no” to otaku, the site is not bad for an hour or less of harmless internet fun.
Psst, oi! As you might have probably seen that for the past few days, we’re just posting and posting Philippines-Japan stuff. Yeah, you may have probably inferred we dig that stuff. Having been bonded together because of a common interest in Japanese pop-culture and its influence to Pinoy culture, Team Sugoi members are actually J-enthusiasts. The site’s name is probably a dead give-away.
So with that little confession, we’d like to announce that we’ll be catering to those who share the common interest in the Japanese culture.
Don’t worry, we’re not neo-colonials who’d shout “Banzai” instead of “Mabuhay,” we love the Philippines, that’s why we will still be focusing on homegrown stuff. We’ll just niche a bit and focus on the interplay of our two cultures.
So still visit the site for the Sugoi Stuff!

Cosplay.ph is having an online cosplay contest. If you are Filipino and have a number of photos of yourself or your friends in full cosplay regalia, then click here for more details. Deadline for submissions is on March 10, 2007. So better hurry!

I mean no offense to our Japanese friends but you really have to wonder a few things about them. Now, unlike Flori, my only contacts with the Japanese culture are sushi, Abe Hiroshi J-dorama, hentai and Maria Ozawa (no contact there, unfortunately).
You really got to admire our bow-legged neighbors from beyond Babuyan Islands. Why? Because despite the US nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they were still able to pull through and go head to head with the US in terms of economy. Unlike us, despite not having been nuked, we haven’t really made advances in technology like the Japanese. So this leads me and my ignorant self to believe that it must be the background radiation.
