Better than Cliff’s Notes

By Flori on March 8, 2007

I hope I’m posting this just in time for those year-end term papers and book reports. But if you’re expecting that I’m giving away links to sites that promote plagiarism, think again. I was able to muddle through more than a decade of schooling without resorting to tricks so I think you can too.

Anyway, I got these links from Prof. Butch Dalisay’s The Philippine Star article. I checked them out myself and I now wish these were available when I was still in school.

Tongue twisted

By Flori on March 7, 2007

I got something other than my knickers got all twisted in a wad, and just because I attempted to recite these:

Aka-pajama, ki-pajama, cha-pajama.

Tonarino kyaku-wa yoku kaki kuu kyaku-da.

Kanda kajicho kado no kajiya no Kanbei-san ga kachiguri katta ga katakute kamenai kamisan ga kanshaku okoshite kari-kari kandara kari-kari kameta.

Kabilugan ng Buwan, Buwan ng Kabilugan

Minimikaniko ni Monico ang makina ng Minica ni Monica.

Pinaputi ni Tepiterio ang pitong puting putong patong patong.

The Filipino ones are quite yabai, ne? Anyway, here are more T twisters from the 1st International Collection of Tongue Twisters.

It was quite fun to watch the performances of the different universities, schools, and organizations during the 2007 Nihongo Fiesta. Most of them were amusing and some were interesting, but all were certainly entertaining.

If I knew that the first prize for the 34th Nihongo Speech Contest, held last Saturday during the 2007 Nihongo Fiesta, was an all-expense paid trip to Japan (courtesy of Japan Airlines), I would have dug up my old speech piece and entered the darn contest myself!

All I could do was gnaw at my bottom lip last Saturday as I trained my lens on the happy teary-eyed winners posing for both the amateur and professional photographers happily clicking away in front of them. Yeah, I was picturing that I was the one holding the gigantic JAL ticket on stage with H.E. Ryuichiro Yamazaki, the Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines by my side. It actually made the whole ordeal bearable.

Bitterness aside, I’d just like to say congratulations to all the participants and most especially to the winners! You may have gotten the tickets, but I’m still pretty!
