For some reason, the old post was lost and after being out of commission for the past months, we’re resurrecting Sugoi Stuff.

Anyway,? we had been ranting about this travesty of anime justice known as the Dragon Ball live action movie dubbed Dragon Ball Evolution. It’s never really cool for some white boy to play a classic anime character such as Son Goku.

Without further ado, check the trailer.

Cap from the Dragonball movie teaser

The teaser is out and you can watch it after the jump. That is, if you want to.

Piccolo in Dragonball Movie

This officially makes it the next step towards Apocalypse. Dragonball has just release screenie teasers of how Lord Piccolo would look in the live-action Dragonball movie and, by gawd, it looks awful. Horrible. Appalling. I don’t know if this screenie’s just bad or the lighting’s off, a flesh-colored Piccolo just plain sucks. And what’s up with that costume. He looks like he’s going to a gala or something.

This absolutely shows the lack of creativity of the Dragonball movie. Yes, cast James Marsters (famous as Spike in Buffy) as Piccolo and rip-off the Joss Whedon’s vampire look too. Piccolo is a Namek. That means he’s a green alien from outer space and not a spawn of the underworld. This is becoming more f*cked up than expected. The f*ckers.

For a supposed die-hard fan, Stephen Chow has murdered the franchise.

Chow Yun Fat Dragonall

Oh man. The more details I get on this Dragonball movie, the more I’m trying not to barf. For one, I really hate it when you get white folk trying to play black-haired anime characters. Such is the case when Hollywood decides to get something innately Asian and Anglicize them for a westernized take. But what makes this a travesty of justice is that Stephen Chow is producing this potential pile of steaming crap.

This is Dragonball for chrissakes! It doesn’t really matter if you cast Jamie Chung, Chow Yun Fat and Eriko Tamura (as Chi Chi, Master Roshi and Mai, respectively). Justin Chatwin as Son Goku is just plain wrong! Enough with white guys playing the token anime hero!

Oh, and does Chow Yun Fat look pervy enough to be Master Roshi? Pfft…

More pictures after the cut.

Justin Chatwin as Son Goku

When everyone else is barfing because of too much beer, some die-hard otakus might just be barfing their guts out when they finally see the trailer this October. That’s where we’d all get to see some white dude with spiky hair play Goku and a bunch of other white chicks trying to pass off as J. Even the prospect of seeing my man Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi hasn’t upped my interest for this one.

I don’t care if this is a 20th Century Fox film. This has the makings of a craptastic movie. Heck, I even have the impression that the DoA movie will be better just because that had tits and ass. The film is slated to be shown April 10, 2009. Happy belated April Fools.

And oh. The trailer is set to be shown in the screening of the up and coming Max Payne movie starring Marky Mark without the Funky Bunch. For those not a Batang 80s, that’s Mark Wahlberg for you.

Oktoberfest, baby!

Dragonball Movie

Dragonball Live Action Movie cast

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a live action Dragonball movie in production. We thought it’ll be a Japanese production, but it turns out it’s a Hollywood one which makes it worse.

I don’t know about you, but I’m apprehensive about this movie due to a number of things. The possible deviation from the original storyline (which I loved), the non-Asian main actors, or the possible warning lights of “phail“.

What’s sugoi about this one? Well, it has Chow Yun Fat in it and Stephen Chow is producing. But I really don’t know if it’ll ease my apprehension enough.

But knowing my affinity to trainwreck situations, I might be updated on this one more than I could hope for your pleasure or torture, whatever the case may be.

The rest of the known cast are Justin Chatwin as Goku, James Marsters as Lord Piccolo, and Emmy Rossum as Bulma.

Dragon Ball turned 21

By Alex on February 27, 2007

I can’t believe I’m the one making this post as it belies my otaku-hatin’ nature. Hahaha. But yesterday’s Dragon Ball’s 21st anniversary and I forgot to post this bit. In 1986, Akira Toriyama’s creation aired on Japanese Nihon TV.

Oh well, I knew RPN made strides when I first heard Son Gokou speak Tagalog all of a sudden. Sure was a Sunday afternoon shocker.
