Oh and here’s another one to open the year for all of us.
I’ve been a Street Fighter fans since and Chun-Li has got to go down as one of the best fighting game babes of all time. When we all thought the Street Fighter movie with Jean-Claude Van Dam was atrocious (I liked Kylie as Cammy, though), they decided to muck up the nasty SF movie history with this steaming pile of crap.
I never liked Kristin Kreuk even in Smallville and I sure as hell don’t like her playing an obviously Chinese gal. Oh well. I just hope these get overshadowed by all the graphic novel-based movies this year.
Here’s the Japanese trailer.

More casting news for some more movie adaptations of geekdom classics. Next stop after that crazy news about the Justice League movie, we have Street Fighter. Probably an attempt to coincide with the release of the new Street Fighter 4 game to double up on the publicity. The first SF movie sucked so much that I got jaded with SF for quite some time after. Even Kylie Minogue was a letdown playing Cammy with too much cover.
Anyway, they’re at it again. So far, and the confirmed “stars” to be in the movie:
- Kristen Kreuk – Chun Li
- Neil McDonough – M. Bison
- Michael Clark Duncan – Balrog
- Chris Klein – Charlie
- Taboo of The Black Eyed Peas – Vega
- Rick Yune – Gen
Ooowkay. So you get a Canadienne to play someone Chinese? It might work because of some of Kristin Kreuk’s features but she doesn’t look Chinese to me. But hey, Kristin Kreuk? In (hopefully the old) Chun-li uniform? I don’t think a lot of hot-blooded males will be complaining. Michael Clark Duncan is one large dude that might do the job. Neil McDonough will always be that guy from Boomtown who’s from Band of Brothers for me.
As long as it doesn’t have Van Damme, I’m okay with it.

Quoted from UDON Entertainment‘s DeviantArt journal:
Street Fighter is one of the most influential video game franchises of all time. It launched the head-to-head fighting game genre and brought together millions of players around the globe to do battle, first at arcades and then, later on, across a variety of home consoles. 2008 is the 20th anniversary of the franchise…

Just three days ago we at Sugoi Stuff posted about the return of Street Fighter. To recap, the January issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) reported that Street Fighter IV will be released on the next generation of video game consoles.
So far, the old (or should I say classic) characters who were confirmed by EGM to return in this game are Ryu, Ken, Chun-li, Dhalsim. Also, in this game will debut a new character, Crimson Viper.
But that’s not all.

Yup, that’s right folks. Street Fighter is back. Undoubtedly, Street Fighter set the stage for the whole fighting game craze back in the 90s. And years after, the Capcom franchise still wouldn’t be kicking the bucket ready to take on the new generation of gaming consoles and gamers with Street Fighter IV as the January issue of EGM have reported.
Details about the new Street Fighter came out last year. You might want to ask, what the heck are they doing. After all, the franchise has been around for a decade and has went through at least three generations of gaming consoles. But Street Fighter IV aims to address both image and consumer appeal in this release.

One of the best cross-over video game titles I have ever played so far is Monolith Soft‘s tactical/action RPG, Namco × Capcom (read as Namco Cross Capcom).
This game, which was developed by the same company associated with the Xenosaga series, featured characters from games produced by Namco and Capcom (that is if it isn’t obvious enough). It was released on May 26, 2005 in Japan, but I only got to play the game two weeks after its released. I grew impatient waiting for N×C to be distributed here in the Philippines.
