Wolverine Hugh Jackman

X-Men Origins: Wolverine has got to be one of the biggest disappointments this year. I wanted to slot in Transformers and G.I. Joe but since my expectations for both movies not so high as what I had for Wolverine, they don’t seem to quite cut it as disappointments.

Wolverine was such a waste of the talents of Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber and even for a cameo – Ryan Reynolds. If anything, it’s almost two hours of teasers for possible future projects. But it did well at the box office. So well that producers want to milk Wolvie’s franchise through a sequel.

Word has it that Christopher McQuarrie will be involved in the sequel. If his name’s not familiar, his credits include many collaborations with director Bryan Singer and writing screenplays for Public Access, The Usual Suspects, X-Men (uncredited), The Way of the Gun, and Valkyrie. I’m not a big fan of his more recent works but The Usual Suspects rocked so maybe there’s hope for the sequel.

The sequel is also reported to tap Frank Miller and Chris Claremont’s Wolverine #1-4 so that would mean Wolvie’s being shipped to Japan. Whether that would mean meeting the likes of The Hand, Yukio, Silver Samurai or perhaps a love angle with Mariko Yashida, we’ll know eventually but we’re putting these as very likely.

Iron Man Anime

During the Comic Con, Marvel Entertainment in partnership with Madhouse released teasers for anime series for the Japanese market. One of which is for Iron Man and it looks like it came out of the comic panels. There will also be one for Wolverine. The Anime Iron Man DVD will be released on 2010.

Deebeedee pushers are having quite the heyday with the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie leaked through the Interwebs. That surely strikes a dent towards the build-up leaving people wondering if that would also affect box office returns once it officially hits the theaters.

Activision, the publisher of the accompanying game, isn’t too troubled though. They’ve just released this game trailer featuring cameo-appearances of several Marvel characters including a Sentinel, Gambit, and Blob.

The game will come to PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP come on May 1.

And on the trail-end of today’s trailer blitz posts is my pick for most anticipated movie of 2009 – X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I’m a huge fan of Wolverine as a character and the Origin graphic novel would come down as my all-time favorite to date.

I liked how they extended the story beyond Origin and went up to the Weapon X phase of Wolverine’s personal history. I think that would allow for much more character development since Origin requires just so much background knowledge for better appreciation.

Nevermind if they got six-footer Hugh Jackman to play a supposedly vertically-challenged character (He’s 5’3!!!). I think Jackman’s one of the best casting decisions in the history of comic-based movies ever. Feast your eyes, bub!

Edward Norton as The Incredible Hulk

Yup. I’m all too excited with these two upcoming Marvel movies. And oh, don’t forget about Iron Man, but that’s a different story. If it’s all for the excellent casting so far, then I really wouldn’t have a problem with a few storyline tweaks.

First up, Edward Norton as the Incredible Hulk (pictured above). While some think that Eric Bana already did a good job playing Bruce Banner, I’d still go for Norton here. He’s the only reason Fight Club worked for me.

Wolverine Cast

Okay, so we have more X-Men Origins: Wolverine news. Yesterday, it was just but Variety.com has confirmed it that indeed, Ryan Reynolds will be playing Deadpool in the movie. And being a Wolverine fan that I am, I am keeping close track of the movies progress. Much like with 300, this Wolverine movie has got to be one of my most anticipated movies as a comic-turned-movie fan.

It was also announced that Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch and Black-Eyed Pea will.i.am will be in the movie, we only got word today on who they would be playing. Taylor Kitsch will be playing the card-dealing Cajun, Gambit. Now, I’m not too sure with how Gambit fits into the whole Wolverine story (this was probably the time that I wasn’t too focused on comics anymore) but hey, might just be an excuse to introduce the character. As for will.i.am, he’s slated to play the role of Kestrel/John Wraith, the powerful teleporter that’s part of Team X.

Ryan Reynolds

Okay. So it seems that the X-Men spinoff Wolverine movie (dubbed as X-Men Orgins: Wolverine) will be a beefcake festival with Hugh Jackman reprising his Wolverine role. Now I am quite misled by the movie title since when you have “Wolverine” and “origin” in one line, I often think about the that Origin graphic novel that starts out with a young James Howlett.
This absolutely makes sense if the storyline would focus on Weapon X arc of the whole Wolverine saga. And hey, I’m more interested with this one than that sorry-ass final movie.

Rumors have been abound ever since December last year but news has it that Van Wilder himself will be playing the role of Deadpool in the movie. A few others in the cast are Friday Night Light‘s Taylor Kitsch, Black-Eyed Pea, will.i.am, Live Schreiber, Danny Huston and Lynn Collins. The film will start filming this month in Australia.

And how about this Reynolds-Deadpool comparison? Can work, ei?
