Here’s how you can try to win hearts and minds – use media that’s familiar to them.
In the case of the US, last year’s campaigns saw the importance of the Internet in pushing forward advocacies. Now, it seems like Japan’s politician are also making the Internet a potential political battleground.
This anime political ad is sponsored by Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Ever since the LDP posted this video online on Friday, it has had well over 219,000 hits.
The ad features a man (who happen to look like Democratic Party of Japan‘s Yukio Hatoyama) proposing to girl in a restaurant. It is an attempt to question the DPJ’s proposals.
Japan’s Prime Minister Taro Aso of the LDP has been quite unpopular with the opposition and even with fellow party members and has called for parliamentary elections. The latest polls show that the DPJ is edging the LDP.
Here are (hastily-drafted :p ) transcript of the dialog:
Man: I am the one who will make you happy. Fill your life with roses. Ill take care of you, your maternity expenses, the expenses of your children, living expenses, and retirement expenses. We’ll speed into the highway of life as fast as you like.
Woman: But the money?
Man: We dont have to worry about anything once we get married.
Woman: What?
Groundless self-confidence or foundation?

Otaku-wankers beware! A new bill is out to get the sicker ones of your rank and send them to jail. Here’s a press release regarding a bill in the House of Representatives that seeks to penalize “the offenders who sell, offer, advertise, and promote child pornography. It also covers those found to possess, download, purchase, reproduce, or make available child pornography materials with the intent of selling or distributing them.”
Another seasonal feature here on Sugoi Stuff would be Okashii News – newsbits that are funny-odd (okashii meaning strange, amusing, funny). This might not be funny to you but some members of Team Sugoi are just plain choco-fiends, with our latest contributor, GenkiChelli, a choco dealer as well.
The lot of them have been trying to convince me that chocolates will cure my depression claiming the age-old argument that chocolates boost happy chemicals. Well, whoever claims that chocolate is better than sex is a damned virgin.
Happy chemicals? Well I guess unless it’d be these chocolates, I wouldn’t readily bet on happy chems just yet. This sweets shop owner just laced his goods with hallucinogenic ‘shrooms and marijuana.
Unfortunately for the shop owner, he was nabbed trying to sell these goodies.
Police said, “In the shop we found 120 pieces of magic mushroom chocolate and countless cannabis lollipops.” They also found jars of laced honey.
Well, he should’ve moved to Amsterdam before trying this stunt.
First of all, let me say that the 7th Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention was, or is, SUGOI!
I went on both days as a cosplayer, not knowing that correspondents from Sugoi Stuff would discover my presence. Tough luck for me, but enough about that; I will use this opportunity to chronicle my exploits and experiences as a cosplayer on those days.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I arrived half a day late for the convention proper. And as much as I would have liked to give you real-time highlight updates via micro-blogging, there was no wifi available. So forgive me for my very limited point of observation in my post-event report.
It’s been a week since the storm called Ozine Fest 2008 had calmed down. It was held last April 5 and 6 at Megatrade Hall 2, SM Megamall, presented by Otakuzine Anime Magazine and Lineage II.
Just like any other conventions, you would expect a lot, and I do mean a lot of cosplayers roaming around and outside the venue. I went on both days to document the sights and sounds (not to mention the scents) inside the hall.
WARNING: I will not only be describing the event; I will also share some critiques regarding it.
I couldn’t think of the right words to describe “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair right now. It’s just so unreal that the 36-year career of “The Man” has ended after he was defeated by “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XXIV last March 30th. Though I know it was bound to happen, I still get goosebumps just seeing the photos of his emotional final WWE match; the way he staged his retirement, a “career threatening match” against the person who he influenced and inspired to become “one of the boys”, it was classic.
I wasn’t at the Citrus Bowl to watch the spectacle; I was satisfied enough to see the spoilers on WWE.com. After all, sooner or later, I will get a chance to rent a WrestleMania DVD from video outlets around.
If we recall, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez had once met each other in the boxing ring four years ago in Las Vegas, Nevada; it was for the WBA and IBF World Featherweight titles. The match ended in a controversial draw due to the error in scoring committed by one of the judges.
Now, the two modern-day gladiators met again to settle their Unfinished Business, thus the name of the pay-per-view that featured the main event card.
We've done some house cleaning and unfortunately, we broke some links to out Photobucket-hosted images. (FAIL!) We're sorry for that so just check our Photobucket album for those missing images.
